a prisoner of war's interview

I'm Salay Vasily Afanasyevich, born in 2001, November 11. I live and serve in Budyonnovsk as an artillery crew member. On 27 February, we arrived at the Ukrainian border. On 20 February, we were ordered to arrive on the Dzhankoy training site for military exercises. After that, on 27 February, we arrived… we were ordered to take a defensive position at the Ukrainian border. After that, we were moved across the border onto the Ukrainian territory. We moved in a column as a part of a battalion tactical group to the New Kakhovka town. [The speaker stresses the first syllable of the word “Kakhovka” which is incorrect. The correct stress is on the second syllable. — translator] We stopped there, and when we wanted to turn around and drive back, we were told that there is no way back and our own people may shoot at us. Then we were ordered to escort bridges, pontoons. After that, we moved forward. After we had driven to New Kakhovka, I saw a real war. There were heavy losses among civilians, among… the soldiers of the Russian Federation, and also among the soldiers of Ukrainian Army. There were really heavy losses. I'm speaking to all citizens of the Russian Federation: picket military commissariats, military bases, everything. We don't need this war. This war is useless. A lot of people die, and we don't need this.
